Who doesn't love sausage and peppers on a fresh roll?? This is an easy 5 ingredient recipe you can make on a weeknight or lazy Sunday afternoon.
Cooking Ingredients:
--Place sausage in a large non-stick skillet, pierce the casing with a fork. [The local sausage I used was all natural so it wasn't very greasy. So I added some olive oil to the pan with some of the crushed garlic to help infuse the flavors and crisp the sausage.]
--While sausage is cooking, in a separate large skillet add remaining olive oil and garlic, add green peppers. Cook on medium-low for about 5 minutes and then add onion. Season with salt and pepper and cook until veggies are cooked down to your liking, approximately 12-15 minutes.
--Once the sausage was almost cooked, I chopped it up on a cutting board and added it back to original pan. I then added small can of tomato sauce, cooked until sausage was fully cooked (10 more minutes).
--Then add the veggies, mix well, and serve on a fresh hoagie roll!!
- 2 lbs. of hot Italian sausage (I used a local butcher, but any kind will be delicious)
- 4 large green bell peppers or cubanelle peppers, seeded and julienne
- 2 medium onions, thinly sliced
- 3 cloves of garlic, roughly crushed
- 1 small can of Hunts tomato sauce
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil (heavy hand to coat the pan)
